A Walk-through journey as an IISC Intern
Well I do not know where do I start from,Let me start off by telling the way I was selected as a Summer Fellow-2018 under Summer Research Fellowship Program(SRFP) by Indian Academy of Sciences,Bangalore.
Usually in the month of October every year Indian Academy of Sciences(IAS) opens its applications for all Science and Engineering students to apply for Research internships in various prestigious institutions Like IIT’s ,IISC,TIFR,DRDO,ISRO and also in various industries that are research oriented.
It was 27th of October,2017 while I was browsing for internships at the end of my 2nd year of Computer Science Engineering that I accidentally came across the IAS application ,little did I know about the importance of it when I was applying for it.
“Accidents sometimes creates wonders”-Anonymous Writer ,this happened to be true for me.On 31st of October 2017 I applied for it as I had to collect all semester marks and then apply that took me 2–3 days.
Somewhere in the second week of December,2017 I got a mail that I was shortlisted for further interview.Then in another 2–3 days I got a call for interview where I was asked algorithmic,mathematical question.Some probability questions and also lastly the programming questions I answered them all pretty well and confidently.
Then by March,2018 in the official site of IAS they started announcing results,I was waiting ,my name was not there ,then second week of March again I checked some names were added but did not find mine yet.
Then finally on 25th March 2018,I checked with least hope sitting in bus while coming back from college and Viola !!I found my name under Prof. Vishvanadham at Indian Institute of Science(IISC),Bangalore I was so happy as it was Bangalore my own city otherwise I had to reject the offer as I would have exams at that time and could not attend if I was given offer outside Bangalore and above all it was IISC !!! my dream institute all over India only 425 Engineering students from IIT’s ,NIT’s etc.,were selected for this fellowship and I was one of those though from a tier -3 college,I was on top of the sky!!!! .
Then got official offer letter from Indian Academy of Sciences ,that had all mandatory details like the stipend amount,days of internship,and hostel facility for students coming from outside Bangalore etc.,
It was a 56 days of internship ,where in the first 4 weeks we had to submit our progress report to get our first month stipend and 8-week report at the end that contained complete project report.
In this 56 days I learnt a lot .Wait for more details wait for my next blog something exciting to come soon!!!otherwise this blog will become too big.
