Google Season of Docs-2021-Application Journey (Part -2)
After introducing to the GSoD in my Part -1 of GSoD Application journey let me take up the second part of this journey.
Choosing the Organisation
Choosing the organisation for GSoD is one of the important phase in your GSoD application,this year(2021) there were 30 organisations selected by Google to participate in GSoD.
Usually all the applicant technical writers get one month time to choose your organisation,to communicate with them and prepare your proposal .So my advice is to choose your organisation wisely based on your interest and start communicating with through Slack,Google Groups etc., and share your proposal with them.Also start contributing to these organisations via Github to increase your chance of getting selected (this helps a lot)
Out of 30 organisation,I chose 2 organisations of my choice based on my interest .
Preparing the GSoD proposal
This is the MOST important phase in GSoD ,as it is the main deciding factor for the applicant to get selected as a Tech Writer.
I must tell you there is a huge competition for GSoD,so take your time and prepare a professional proposal
So make your proposal :
- Short and Crisp
- Descriptive -clear to the point
- Add you timeline (You week plan )
- Keep as organised as possible
- Add your previous experiences as Tech writer (if you have one as it is a bonus😃)
So I gave my proposal to one of the two organisation I selected-I gave my proposal to Wechaty.
The Result Announcement Phase
After a month long of application phase,next is the result phase where I was really nervous as there was a huge competition,there were applicants from different parts of the world and also had a lot of technical writing than me.
Then on May 16th 2021 results were announced for the GSoD 2021 Technical writers for Wechaty and finally my name was there💖😍✨🎉.I am glad that I MADE IT !!!!
We are divided into two member team (by Wechaty) to improve the different sections of Wechaty documentation -my team member is Soumibardhan who had already participated in GSoD 2020.II am happy that I will definelty learn something new and also interesting in GSoD 2021 and also from Soumi.
We were also asked to make up a team proposal and a YouTube video explaining our proposal
